In July, more than half the new mobile phone subscriptions in Japan are iPhone 3G; 215,400 out of 391,500 subscribed to SoftBank Mobile, Apple’s exclusive iPhone 3G provider.

Other mobile carriers noting that new cancellations related to customers’ porting their numbers to another provider surpassed new incoming transfers for the first time ever in July. One of the Japanese mobile carrier said “We are accepting the fact, considering that our handsets weren’t attractive enough.”
